Outlook Is Painfully Slow
Hey all!
I've been really struggling to resolve an issue we've been having for as long as I'm aware of (I just came on in June) with our email. I've administered Exchange servers before but don't consider myself an expert at all.
The issue we're having is that Outlook clients (2010/2013) operate EXTREMELY slowly if the user has shared mailboxes/calendars included in their profile. Either Outlook becomes temporarily unresponsive or it totally shuts down (event log on clients just say Outlook.exe has crashed, no other useful info).
The server is Exchange 2013 with the latest updates, roll ups, patches, etc. The only thing server related I can really see is that it only has 12GB of RAM (140 mailboxes). That doesn't seem like a lot but I don't know that a lack of resources would necessarily create issues like this either. The server itself is hosted by an MSP at a datacenter we're connected to via 300Mb microwave radio. Having done Office 365 migrations on less bandwidth with more clients, I can't see bandwidth being a major factor. Clients are all at least Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Core i5, 8GB of RAM and SSDs so not slow machines. AV is Sophos. I have tried cached mode as well as online with no success. Profiles have been rebuilt several times. Clients without shared mailboxes don't report having any issues (myself included).
Any clues on where to start? I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the event logs on the Exchange server but then again I don't really know where to look.
I wish I could just push us to Office 365 but we're contractually obligated to this server for another 24 months...
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
David
